They are basically what would have happened to Caterhams, if they would have thought of making them wider, and fitting a bigger engine.

Donkervoorts are the best cars from the Netherlands at the moment, but then again they are the only Dutch cars at the moment, with Spyker being sort of dead.

To all fellow Oppos that say that “a Donkervoort is like a better Caterham”:

Many moons ago, when the Donkervoort company was very very very young (heck, even I was young then) I read an interesting article on how the idea of their cars evolved.

It seems that at some stage Joop D visited Caterham with a full set of blueprints, measurements and relevant calculations and pitched the idea of a slightly wider and longer Seven. Their reaction was (I quote literally, or as literally as my memory allows) “Oh, that is very interesting” . He left Caterham with high hopes, thinking they would soon get in touch to start some sort of joint redesign.

Instead there was only silence, to his puzzled disappointment.

Unfortunately he had not realised that in British English “oh, that is very interesting” is the polite version of “I am sorry, mate, looks good but we have no intention whatsoever of following your idea”.

(I understand the same misunderstanding occurs time and again in the European Commission, the European Parliament, etc when dealing with UK diplomats)
